Matthew Peifer is a pre-licensed therapist pursuing a Temporary Licensed Professional Counselor with Mental Health Service Provider (TLPC-MHSP) designation in the state of Tennessee. He holds a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Memphis.
Matthew specializes in supporting individuals navigating life changes, such as new or lost jobs, grief, and aging, as well as addressing relationship issues both in individual and couple settings. His approach integrates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which focuses on embracing all parts of oneself to align more closely with personal values and goals, and Family Systems Therapy, which examines the influence of family narratives on current beliefs and behaviors. Additionally, he has completed training in Gottman Couples Therapy Level 1.
Matthew's philosophical approach is rooted in existentialism. He believes that life's full range of experiences, from joy to pain, shapes our beliefs and worldviews. These worldviews can either foster resilience or become sources of pain and limitation. In therapy, Matthew works to help clients understand and transform these beliefs in a safe and calm environment. Operating from a person-centered perspective, Matthew views clients as the experts of their own lives. His role is not to dictate how to live better but to act as a fellow traveler, offering insights and noticing patterns from an outside perspective. He is committed to creating a trusting therapeutic relationship where clients feel safe to express, explore, and discover their true selves.
Matthew is excited to work with you on your journey toward personal growth and well-being. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 901-498-9126. Brief phone consultation is required prior to scheduling.
